Boy from Betelgeuse is an interpretive self-portrait. I express myself as a green June Beetle as I feel it represents me. Most people are scared of them or think they are a little gross. But, I know they are harmless, often misunderstood, and beautiful. To create their brilliant green and yellow colors, I started with a red underpainting so that as I built up the layers, the green would almost pop off the canvas and shine in an iridescent way.
